About the Captain
Byron Shults has grown up on the water. Devoting all of his time towards learning and engaging with the ocean, he has specifically focused on his passion for offshore fishing and waterfowl hunting. He has spent a decade navigating the tricky and shallow waters of the Bogue Sound and out of Beaufort Inlet into the Atlantic ocean known as Onslow Bay. After graduating from East Carolina University with a degree in business management, he founded "Going Bogue Outdoors" in order to help others channel their inner passions for fishing and pursuits on the ocean. He has had the pleasure of working under many notable captains and vessels as first mate, as well as serve as captain onboard a private/charter vessel, "Fishy Business", for 7 years and operated a 50-passenger catamaran ferry. Currently aside from his two vessels, he is a Sea Tow Crystal Coast captain part-time. He has achieved his USCG 50-ton Master Near Coastal Captains License, and PADI Advanced Open Water Certified. He is currently also pursuing an MBA in the Outdoor industry with Western Colorado University, anticipating to graduate in May of 2021.
About the Dog
Pura "Vida" Grace is an English chocolate Labrador retriever. She is very passionate about waterfowl hunting, and has been solely trained by Capt. Byron in her art of waterfowl retrieving, although favorable instincts run in her bloodline. She has proven to be a valuable asset during hunts for waterfowl clients. Her abilities to retrieve in open water, and ability to be casted blindly on downed fowl, are a stunning display of both her abilities and stamina. While she enjoys going fishing just as much as the next person, she also enjoys days of relaxation in the work shop and greeting clients when returning from fishing or other trips. She is rarely far from the cleaning table when it comes time to clean fish, and is occasionally rewarded for her "Good Dog" mannerism.
